Hey everyone, it's time for another delve into the world of a Sleeping Beauty. I'd just like to address some concerns I've heard- all our SB's are totally voluntary and are not kept chained up in the basement. Honest. Well, not on weekdays.

This month we welcome the divine Cherryfox, a photographer, model, burlesque starlet and costumier. This talented lady is working hard in several feilds and has over two years experience as a burlesque performer, routines varying from slow, sexy jazz inspired numbers, to comical routines inspired by classic 50's musicals, and everywhere in between.

If you want to see for yourself, check out her MySpace for dates of performances. Cherryfox arranges her own Members only burlesque night at The Appleby, Green St, Burton-on-Trent, DE14 3RT, generally held on the 3rd Sunday of each month. New members can sign up on the night at the Manager's discretion. The next night is the 17th August.

Here's the place to check out Cherryfox, and while you do that, let's hear a bit about her from the lady herself.

(SWM) G’day  Cherryfox! How’s the “summer” treating you?

(CF) Not too bad thanks, it's lovely to be able to sit in the park and chill with my ipod and a good book, although I’m slathering on the factor 60, tan lines and burly don’t mix.

(SWM) You work in burlesque which has a long list of iconic performers. Are there any who have particularly inspired you?

(CF) Bettie Page is my idol, so cute and innocent and at the same time wicked and kinky. I learnt everything I know from her and Tempest Storm in Teasarama. As far as modern performers are concerned, Beatrix von Bourbon and Ruby Fortune have really great routines. I also work very closely with Fleur du Mal, she’s a fantastic all rounder and a lovely girl.

(SWM) Do you have a long term plan for your modelling or performance?

(CF) I’m not really one for making long terms plans, I live for the day, I only plan tomorrow. I’d really love to take my act on the road, Holland, Japan or maybe even Vegas. I’ll continue performing and modelling for as long as people continue to book me and others continue to watch, I love what I do. Who knows what opportunities are round the corner, and I’ll try anything twice.

(SWM) That's definately a great goal to aim for! What passes for a good time for Cherryfox? Are you a night owl or bookworm?

(CF) Well it depends whether its term time or not, during term I’m generally both! I’m in my final year of a photography degree at staffs uni, and I find I work better in the early hours of the morning, slight sleep deprivation helps the art speak come easier! Although obviously doing uni work in the early hours isn’t my idea of fun. Hate to sound un-original but my idea of a good time is hanging out with my pals, I have a close circle of really great friends, so whether it’s a house party, a meal, or a night on the town, as long as I’m with them its always fun.

(SWM) Works for me! So as we all know, Batman’s been wheeled out and dusted off yet again. Are you a super hero or evil villain?

(CF) Oh dear, way to reveal my inner uber geek! I don’t think I’m either really, I’m into Japanese comics and animation, and nothing’s ever that clean cut with them. I think I’m more of a reluctant anti-hero, the one who saves the world because someone’s got to do it, rather than because they want to be a hero. Incidentally I’ve just seen the new batman film and I was entirely disappointed in the complete lack of female heros/ villains in it! Bring back poison ivy and cat woman!

(SWM) How has living in the Stoke area affected doing your kind of work?

(CF) In over two years performing as a burlesquer I’ve only performed in stoke a handful of times, there doesn’t seem to be the call for it really. Although if anyone reading this wants to put on a burlesque night do get in touch! The great thing about living in stoke is that it’s so easy to get to everywhere else; I perform all over the place which is great.

Thanks for coming Cherryfox! There you have it folks another rummage around in the mind of a poor unsuspecting victim. We love to keep showcasing local talent and interesting people so if you want to be a Sleeping Beauty, male or female, model or performer, artist, oh I dunno juggler even, drop a line to mav@sleepwalkersmagazine.com!
